Benefits of speech and debate:

Academically
Colleges are looking for students who can think, write and communicate effectively. Competitive speech and debate helps students develop the ability to collect information, analyze, synthesize and explain it within minutes.

Students show marked improvement in:
• Research skills
• Public speaking
• Critical thinking
• Time management and organizational skills
• Writing skills

High School Credits
Participating in forensics offers students an opportunity to achieve high school credit in a wide variety of subjects that go far beyond just speech 101. Depending on the debate topic for the year and the events that the student chooses to compete in, credits can be earned for Economics, Philosophy, Current Events, Apologetics, Geography, and the list goes on!

Career Development
Employers are looking for people with an ability to communicate and think critically. Speech and Debate improves these skill sets far beyond anything that can be accomplished in the typical academic setting. Forensics competitors graduate fully prepared to excel at job interviews and transition smoothly into giving presentations in a business environment.

Life Skills
Forensic competition provides positive peer pressure and a desire to excel. Students learn to recognize propaganda and fallacious reasoning that are prevalent in today’s media, academia and the local coffee shop. Through Speech and Debate, students gain the poise and confidence necessary to engage their culture at a podium or across the table in a dinner conversation. Homeschool forensics provides an excellent peer group, social interaction and great friends! Let’s face it, teens are social creatures. Club meetings and tournaments can be intense hard work, but they are also a blast! Many of these students will forge friendships that will last a lifetime.

Character
Christian forensics helps students solidify a Christian world view and prepares them to engage the culture around them.
